Just Opened the Suitcase and Found a Bundle of Rooibos

The mountains were wearing their summer colours when Granny Jay set out on one of her wandering adventures.

She always said the best discoveries happened when you weren't looking for them.

Near a rocky slope she noticed a shrub with fine needle-like leaves swaying gently in the breeze. She clipped a small branch and tucked it into her basket.

By afternoon she was standing at Oom Hendricks' gate.

"What have I found this time?" she asked. The old botanist adjusted his spectacles and smiled.

"Ah, Granny Jay, you've brought me Rooibos."

He explained that Rooibos grows naturally in the rugged mountains of the Cederberg and nowhere else in the world quite like it. For generations, local communities harvested and fermented the leaves to create the rich red infusion that would eventually become famous across the globe.

Granny Jay rolled the slender leaves between her fingers.

"Imagine," she said, "a plant that belongs to these mountains and these mountains alone."

Oom Hendricks nodded.

"That's what makes it special."

From that day, Rooibos became more than a plant to Granny Jay.

It was a reminder that some of nature's greatest treasures grow quietly, rooted in the places they call home.

Today, when we use Rooibos in our products, we celebrate a plant that carries the warmth of the South African landscape and the wisdom of generations who came before us.

Some stories travel the world.

Rooibos began in the mountains.

More on Rooibos later and how Granny Jay infused her many creative products.
